New Tappan Zee announcement expected

September 26, 2008 07:39AM

New York State’s transportation authority is expected to announce today that the Tappan Zee Bridge, which allows 140,000 vehicles per day to cross the Hudson River between Rockland and Westchester counties, will be replaced rather than renovated. The building of a new bridge would cost no more than the repairs necessary to keep the current one safe, officials have hinted. It is also likely that the Department of Transportation, the state’s Thruway Authority and the Metro North Railroad will announce what mass transit will cross the new bridge.
