$10M buyout requested at Carnegie Hall

As the rental apartments at Studio Towers of Carnegie Hall, located above the concert hall, are being vacated to make way for a $150 million redevelopment and conversion of the space, one of the last tenants to leave is asking her landlord for a $10 million buyout. An occupant of one of the rent-controlled units, Editta Sherman pays $530 per month for her 800-square-foot studio home. Carnegie Hall would not comment on Sherman’s request, but did say that it would help relocate remaining tenants to comparable homes in the neighborhood and pay the difference in rent for the remainder of their lives.
