The Department of City Planning, Community Board 1 and several council members met with Greenpoint and Williamsburg residents earlier this week to discuss a rezoning proposal that would limit the heights of buildings to four or five stories on narrow streets and six or seven stories on wide streets. Recent residential construction in these neighborhoods has been much taller. The rezoning would cover 175 blocks, and the community board and planning department believe it would encourage the construction of more affordable housing in the area.
