Rise seen in use of QPRTs

Declining home values have spurred an increase in the use of qualified
personal residence trusts, or QPRTs, a method by which owners can
remove homes from their estate but continue living in them for many
years before passing them down to heirs. A home that has lost value
will move in to a QPRT with a minimal gift tax, and if its value
appreciates in the trust later costly taxes to the estate are avoided.
