Homeowners’ rebates won’t be cut

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced he was getting rid of the $400 homeowners’ rebate checks to save the city money, but he doesn’t have the authority to cut them. Any elimination of the rebates requires City Council approval, and council members have declared the idea to cut the rebates “dead on arrival.” Bloomberg said eliminating the rebates would save the city $256 million.
