Work has stopped at the
New York Botanical Garden’s new $55 million parking garage because it
has been unable to obtain financing. The non-profit institution spent $13 million
demolishing buildings on the site, at the intersection of Webster Avenue and
Bedford Park Boulevard in the Bronx, during the summer. The six-story
garage was expected to be completed by next winter. Botanical garden executives
are hoping to receive $20 million from the federal economic stimulus plan to complete the project.
