Lombardi proposes glass building in Tribeca historic district

February 20, 2009 08:59AM

Architect Joseph Pell Lombardi is planning to build a six-story building made entirely of glass bricks at 401-403 Greenwich Street, between Hubert and Beach streets, for a British developer Lombardi declined to name. Lombardi needs approval from the city Landmarks Preservation Commission to build the structure, called the Glass Atelier, because the building he plans to demolish is in the Tribeca West Historic District. The Community Board 1 landmarks committee was split on the project, concerned with its modern design. Lombardi is meeting with the landmarks commission on March 3, and if approved, the building will have ground-floor retail and eight rental apartments above.
