City accepting proposals for La Marqueta

The New York City Economic Development Corporation has asked the Harlem community to weigh in on plans for La Marqueta, a market in East Harlem that used to have hundreds of stalls with vendors selling food. The market is now down to six vendors, and the EDC is hoping to find a way to allow existing vendors to stay in the market while adding new vendors based on residents’ needs, according to a segment on NY1. Residents said they want a green market and vendors to reflect the neighborhood’s ethnic mix of African Americans, Latinos and Asians. The EDC is accepting proposals for the space until the end of April.
