Williamsburg project name gets the finger

It seems the controversial Williamsburg Finger Building won’t arrive in its original form after all. The project at 144 North Eighth Street is relaunching under a new name, the Albero, and with new plans — the building will be six stories shorter and will boast a green design, according to Andrew Zobler, CEO of GFI Development, which is building the project. Neighborhood residents were disappointed with the development’s original plans, particularly its 16-story height. The Board of Standards and Appeals ruled last year that the building could be built to 16 stories, but according to Crain’s, the recession forced GFI to rethink its plans.
