UES ladies say no to private school expansion

When the Nightingale-Bamford School at 20 East 92nd Street purchased a neighboring four-story building for $9 million in 2007, it likely didn’t anticipate two retirees to put a wrench in the works. Sarah Faunce, 80, and Bertha Fabrizio, 78, have each lived at 28 East 92nd Street, where Nightingale-Bamford hopes to install classrooms and science labs, for more than three decades and they’re not moving out without a fight. The two tenants’ attorney, David Rozenholc, who described the school’s take-over of the building as “heartless,” alleges that the prep academy has been harassing the two women. The school meanwhile, is pointing its finger at state officials, claiming that they’re not doing enough to back its effort to take over the building.
