Former chief crane inspector pleads guilty on bribery charges

James Delayo, the one-time acting chief inspector for Cranes and Derricks for the New York City Department of Buildings, pleaded guilty today to charges of second-degree bribe receiving, according to the Manhattan district attorney’s office. Delayo had been accused of accepting more than $10,000 in payments from Nu-Way Crane in exchange for signing off on cranes that hadn’t been inspected and for granting false licenses to Nu-Way employees who hadn’t passed all necessary exams. Charges against two Nu-Way employees directly involved in the scheme, employee Michael Pascalli and de-facto owner Michael Sackaris, are still pending. Delayo is expected to be sentenced to two to six years in prison. TRD
