Last historic hotel in Stamford hits market

The last of Stamford, Conn.’s storied, historic hotels has hit the market with an asking price of $2.75 million, according to the Stamford Advocate. Originally built the 1860s, the Chesterfield Inn, located at 1404 Shippan Avenue, is considered the city’s last remaining historic hotel in operation. Owner Thomas Rich, a developer who has worked on the Trump Parc, a condo development in Stamford, first bought the inn in 2008 for $2.34 million. It is not immediately clear why he chose to sell the property. Although the Chesterfield has significant historic meaning for the town, market insiders like Martin Nirschel, an agent with Sotheby’s International Realty, say the hotel is unlikely to fly off the market. “The market for quaint New England inns is not all that hot right now, especially in that location,” Nirschel said.
