Designer Jay Godfrey upgrades at Chelsea Mercantile

Designer Jay Godfrey and his wife, Dara, are moving from the Chelsea Mercantile penthouse to a larger, corner apartment downstairs, according to the Observer. The Godfreys, who are expecting a baby in June, are upgrading to their new $3.45 million pad on the 11th floor, despite having looked “in like 25 to 30 buildings in Manhattan, mostly in Tribeca,” the designer said. The 252 Seventh Avenue building, he said, is “a very eclectic mix of artistic and financial, straight, gay everything.” Fredrik Eklund of Core Marketing Group had the listing, which boasts 13 “over-sized tilt-and-turn windows” and bamboo double-entrance doors to the master bedroom. The Godfreys plan to spend six to nine months renovating the interiors. [NYO]
