Conflict brings Dumbo park revamp to a halt

After the Empire Fulton Ferry Park closed for renovations at the beginning of the year, residents were left scratching their heads over why no work was being done on the Dumbo waterfront space, according to the New York Daily News. But sources now say that a conflict between state and local officials has caused the project to hit a standstill, with State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli denying construction approval to the project. DiNapoli reportedly doesn’t believe that the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation, which has control of the park, has the legal right to renovate Empire Fulton Ferry. Although Brooklyn Bridge Park officials say that the claims are false, DiNapoli’s office did confirm that the construction plans remain under review. A spokesperson from Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office, meanwhile, said that the mayor is “working with all of the parties to help resolve the issue.” [NYDN]
