Trump, Cipriani eye Tavern on the Green

Tavern on the Green and Donald Trump

Just a day after talks collapsed between would-be Tavern on the Green operator Dean Poll and the union representing the restaurant’s workers, Donald Trump and the Cipriani company have expressed interest in the defunct eatery, the New York Observer reported. “If I could help the city and the city wanted me to get involved, I could be open” to running Tavern, Trump told the New York Times. John Higgins of Cipriani told the Times, “We are very much interested.” Yesterday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that Tavern would be used as a temporary visitor’s center, snack bar and retail shop, after failed attempts to broker an agreement between the two parties.
