Suzuki behind bars after unfixed building violations linger

Sam Suzuki

Bronx landlord Sam Suzuki is now behind bars, after facing months of allegations that he had failed to Make Court-ordered repairs on his 49-unit property at 1585 East 172nd Street in Soundview, according to Crain’s. Suzuki’s building currently has 691 open violations, according to the city’s Department of Housing and Preservation, for problems ranging from vermin and mold to lead paint and leaky ceilings. While a Housing Court judge ordered Suzuki to make the necessary changes to his building in July 2009, the landlord failed to comply and residents at his building brought their case forward again. Suzuki’s incarceration “shall continue until respondents comply with” the July order, a court statement said. [Crain’s]
