Bronx’s Grand Concourse faces last hurdle to landmark vote

Neighborhood advocates are thrilled over a proposal to turn the Bronx’s Grand Concourse into a landmarked historic district, according to the New York Post. A section of the century-old concourse between 153rd and 167th streets is up for review, with a public hearing scheduled for tomorrow by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The hearing will be the last step needed before the committee votes on whether to designate the space as an historic neighborhood. Preservationists say that the segment of the Bronx is significant for its art deco architecture, as well as its roots among immigrant communities during the turn of the century. [Post]
