Carly Simon mulls offer for West Village pad

Famed singer-songwriter Carly Simon has received an offer close to the $2.975 million asking price for her two-bedroom West Village duplex.

But the Grammy-winning entertainer is on the fence about parting with the 46 Commerce Street home, according to her sister and the listing broker, Fox Residential Group’s Joanna Simon.

“When someone makes an offer, [Carly] kind of pulls it off the market because she has very mixed feelings about whether she wants to sell it,” said Joanna Simon, who is well-known in her own right as a former opera star who became Walter Cronkite’s girlfriend at the end of his life. Joanna Simon recently sold Cronkite’s co-op at 870 United Nations Plaza for $2.5 million.

Carly, who now spends most of her time on her 40-acre Martha’s Vineyard estate, reportedly purchased the Commerce Street space in early 2004 for around $1.2 million. Located in a Federal-style townhouse, the apartment was then gut renovated. Carly herself handpicked the furnishings, most of which are on sale along with the duplex, which hit the market in June of 2008 at $3.85 million.

“This is the most beautiful place I ever lived,” she told the Daily News’s Jason Sheftell in 2009, but “it’s time to sell.”

But she may be reconsidering.

Last listed at $2.975 million, the duplex has been taken off the market until at least September while Carly, who recently pulled out of the Lilith Fair tour after breaking her foot, decides whether or not to accept the offer currently on the table, Joanna said.

“It depends about Carly and what she wants to do,” Joanna said, adding: “I think that she hasn’t totally decided that she wants to sell it.”

A spokesperson for the singer could not be reached for comment.
