A $308 million penthouse in Monaco has sold, marking the world’s most expensive apartment sale ever and destroying the previous record — a $220 million penthouse in London — which had been set just last month. The 17,500-square-foot duplex penthouse includes roof terraces, an infinity pool, a panic room and platinum leaf detailing on the dining room ceiling. It had been the home of Edmund Safra, a billionaire banker who perished under mysterious circumstances in a fire in 1999. The buyer’s identity has not yet been confirmed; however, early rumors suggest either an Arab sheikh or a Greek billionaire. [Luxist]
