Zell, LeFrak and Ross make top richest Americans list, as do Speyer and Catsimatidis

Real estate bigwigs Sam Zell, Richard LeFrak and his family and Stephen Ross cracked Forbes’ annual list of the 400 richest people in America, released yesterday.

Zell, chairman of Equity Group Investments, is ranked 60 with a net worth of $4.4 billion; LeFrak of the LeFrak Organization and his family come in at 62 with a $4.3 billion net worth and Ross of the Related Companies won the 101st spot with a net worth of $3.1 billion.

Other real estate honchos that made the cut are Soho Grand and Tribeca Grand owner Leonard Stern at 88 ($3.5 billion), Donald Trump at 153 ($2.4 billion), Boston Properties’ Mortimer Zuckerman at 182 ($2 billion); Tishman Speyer’s Jerry Speyer at 221 ($1.8 billion); John Catsimatidis, CEO of the Red Apple Group, at 238 ($1.7 billion); developer Sheldon Solow at 332 ($1.2 billion); and Vornado Realty Trust’s Steven Roth at 365 ($1.1 billion).

Mayor Michael Bloomberg appears on the list in the 10th spot with a net worth of $18 billion.

The three richest people in the country are Bill Gates of Microsoft again, with a net worth of $54 billion, followed by Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway with a net worth of $45 billion and Larry Ellison of Oracle with a $27 billion net worth. Together the 400 people on the list have a net worth of $1.37 trillion, up 8 percent from last year. TRD
