The Bowery Residents’ Committee is facing scrutiny over its planned 12-story, 328-bed homeless shelter at 127 West 25th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, according to Chelsea Now. The $12 million construction project, which is expected to be complete in February 2011, faced widespread community scrutiny throughout its planning stages. Now, it’s facing a formal complaint from a coalition of local property and business owners who say they’re concerned that the BRC is not proceeding with proper zoning and construction regulations. “We will work with the community and city agencies to get people to examine the improprieties and irregularities in this process,” said Daniel Connolly, the attorney representing the complainant. “And absent the owners stopping work on this project, we have no choice but to file.” The building, which is already underway, is set to open at 127 West 25th Street.
