UWS condo board files suit against breast-feeding center

A breast-feeding education and resource center is operating an illegal retail store inside its premises on the ground floor at the Pythian condominium building at 135 West 70th Street, the building’s board alleges. According to DNAinfo, the board has filed a lawsuit with the New York Supreme Court contending that only doctors’ offices are permitted in the building. By selling nursing bras, breast-pumps and other gear, the center has apparently violated its agreement.

Felina Rakowsi-Gallagher, owner of the breast-feeding center, says her business is not retail-oriented and provides a nurturing setting for new mothers struggling with feeding their children. It does not, she said, display any merchandise in the windows.

The board wants the court to issue a permanent injunction against any type of retail in the building. The board president could not be reached for comment. [DNAinfo]
