Hotelier Sean MacPherson sees potential for Hamptons-style hotels in Rockaways

Hotelier Sean MacPherson sees a lot of potential in the Rockaways, the
Wall Street Journal reported. At a party in Chelsea at the Maritime
Hotel, which he owns, he said he believed the increased attention the
Rockaways have recently gotten is deserved, not a “press-generated
concept.” He said it reminded him of the area around Venice in
California, which has become more popular since he grew up there. “I
think Rockaway is going to follow a similar path. It’s the Lower East
Side on the beach. It’s like, ‘Why are people not living out here?'”, he told the Wall Street Journal. He said he saw opportunities for real
estate development there, such as Hamptons-style hotels, “kind of
funky, like a motel.” He also owns the Jane and the Bowery hotels, as well as the Crow’s Nest in Montauk. [WSJ]
