Major Westport. Conn. commercial developer B.V. Brooks has passed away in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at age 84, following a heart attack, the Connecticut Post reported.

Brooks joined his father’s real estate firm, Brooks, Inc. in the early 1960s after starting his career as an investment banker. The company was responsible for the development of the Westfair Shopping Center, Westfair Village and Compo Shopping Center in Westport. Brooks also founded the Westport News, which won a national press award as the best community newspaper in America in the early 1990s.
“He was a gentleman to deal with, always willing to listen and open to new ideas,” said Woody Klein, a former editor of the newspaper. ” I shall miss his friendly manner and participation in our community.” [Connecticut Post]
