Yoga studio leases ground floor of UES condo

A yoga studio has leased the former ground-floor storefront of Blockbuster Video at 1456 First Avenue between 74th and 75th streets, Newmark Knight Frank Retail announced today.

House of Jai Yoga will take the 2,360 square feet of space at ground level, in addition to 1,800 square feet on the lower level. The rent for the 10-year lease was not immediately available. The studio will offer a variety of types of yoga instruction, which include prenatal, kids, and teen classes. According to the studio’s Facebook page, it will open in a few weeks.

Jeffrey Roseman, executive vice president and principal of NKF, along with associate Amy Zhen, represented the building’s landlord, RFR Realty. Joshua Price of Gallery Real Estate represented House of Jai.

“While Blockbuster Video put Upper East Side residents on the couch,” said Roseman of the former tenant, “House of Jai will get them up and moving again.” Blockbuster left at the beginning of 2011, according to a spokesperson for NKF.
