The Players club faces building problems

The Gramercy Park block between Irving Place and Park Avenue South is hot with building-related drama. DNAinfo reported that not only is the National Arts Club in the news over the alleged behavior of its president O. Aldon James, his twin brother John and their friend Steven Leitner, but next door at 16 Gramercy Park South, the Players actors’ society, has its own building issues.

Besides being $2 million in debt from a drop in membership, DNAinfo said the Players building has Department of Buildings violations for a crumbling facade. DOB issued a violation in December, stating that the balconies and columns were in a state of disrepair, and another one in February.

A DOB spokesperson told DNAinfo that if it was believed the building’s facade posed safety risks, the agency would force an emergency fix. [DNAinfo]
