Applebee’s becomes second chain restaurant to secure Harlem plot this year

Applebee’s, the national chain eatery, is slated to open in East Harlem this fall, which now marks a trend of national franchises opening shop in the Harlem area, New York Magazine reported. The restaurant will be located at 509-513 East 117th Street, a vacant lot just off the FDR Drive and will be LEED certified. The asking rent, taking rent and brokers were not mentioned.

This Applebee’s location will be the fourth in Manhattan, but the second national restaurant set to open in Harlem since February. Red Lobster will be moving into a space next to the Apollo Theater on 125th Street that has not yet been constructed. Though Red Lobster submitted its liquor license application this month, its opening date is still unclear. Applebee’s metro-area locations typically gross double the profits of the chain’s national average, New York said. [NY Mag] and [Harlem + Bespoke]
