Mickey Mantle’s closed this morning

Mickey Mantle’s on Central Park South officially lost its rent battle and closed this morning, NY1 reported. The beloved Yankee’s namesake restaurant, which first opened in 1988, had attempted to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy but a judge dismissed that maneuver yesterday. The restaurant was months behind in rent, which owner Chris Villano blamed on disputes with landlord Atco, rising food costs and changing city regulations, the New York Post reported.

As previously reported, the Post said the next tenant of the building will likely be an offshoot of West 57th Street Russian restaurant Brasserie Pushkin.

But NY1 said Villano planned to appeal the court ruling in an effort to keep the restaurant open as Mantle’s original partner in the restuarant, Bill Liederman, claims he’s raised enough money to help it survive. [NY1] and [Post]
