Fashion’s Fabien Baron sells Soho home for $7.5M

French fashion and design guru Fabien Baron has found a buyer for his minimalist home at the celebrity-studded condo building 158 Mercer Street, according to public records filed today with the city. The former editorial director of Interview magazine, who has also dabbled in advertising and television directing, sold the 4,171-square-foot, three-bedroom spread to a Los Angeles-based buyer for $7.25 million earlier this month, records show.

It had been on the market since April asking $8.4 million.

The buyer appears to be a Hollywood producer named David Zander, co-founder and director of commercial production company MJZ. Zander, who produced the 2012 film “Spring Breakers” starring Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, was not immediately reachable to confirm he was the buyer.

The property was listed by Dennis Mangone, a managing director at Douglas Elliman. Mangone did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

As previously reported, Baron purchased the apartment for just over $1.5 million in 1997. He then listed in for sale asking $7.5 million in June 2010 but took it off the market just six months later.

The apartment won an award from the American Institute of Architects in 2001 for its renovation by architect Deborah Berke. It has a 59-foot living room and 450-square-foot master bedroom and some novel design features. The home’s electrical outlets are hidden under wood planks in the floor, for instance.

The building has been home to hotelier Andre Balazs and  rockerJon Bon Jovi, it’s been previously reported. Mark Madoff, son of famed white-collar swindler Bernie Madoff, took his own life in the building in 2010.
