The Construction Project That Has Turned East Houston Street into a maze of barricades is going to take longer than expected and the prospect of more noisy work isn’t making residents in the area any too happy, DNAinfo reported.

Reconstruction of the Hudson Street Corridor, at a cost of $60 million, had been set to wrap up by summer 2014; now the completion date is October 2014, Paul Kidder, community liaison for the Department of Design and Construction, announced Wednesday night at a joint meeting of Community Boards 2 and 3.

From March 25 through March 28, work on the project will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Neighbors are worried that they won’t be able to sleep because of all the noise.

“Construction does have noise with it, but we’re going to try to limit it as much as we can,” Kidder said, adding that workers would follow the Department of Environmental Protection’s noise code. [DNAinfo]Christopher Cameron
