Matt Lauer ordered to stop work on Hamptons farm

Southampton is telling “Today’s’” Matt Lauer to hold his horses, the New York Post reported.

Town officials have ordered the morning show host to stop work on a renovation under way at his 40-acre horse farm. Until getting a stop-work order in late March, Lauer was converting an office building into a residence.

“When tearing down the old office they found rot,” a source told the Post. “We need to fix the roof before work can begin again.”

The construction team working on the property filed new papers to restart construction within days of receiving the stop-work order, the Post said.

“We’re not at odds with the town,” the source said.

Lauer closed on the $3 million purchase of the horse farm in October, however, local residents at the time had objected to Lauer’s proposal to build an indoor riding center, new farm and small nursery on the property, as previously reported. The Southampton Town Planning Board had given Lauer’s plan the go-ahead anyway. [NYP] –Hayley Kaplan
