Danielle Becker-Wilson, an agent at Halstead Property, is making a buck this summer by renting out her million-dollar East Hampton home while she and her family live in a 400-square-foot trailer, the New York Post reported. She’s not alone: other East Hampton and Montauk residents are using the same strategy to nab rent money for a variety of reasons.

“Everyone’s doing it,” an anonymous source told the Post, adding that he has rented out his 3,500-square-foot, five-bedroom Montauk home this summer to pay for his kids’ college tuition. “Montauk is hot.” He’ll make $60,000 from July and August rents.

Becker-Wilson refers to the strategy as “glamping,” or “glamour-camping.” She and her husband will collect a total of $50,000 in July and August rents for their home. The money will go toward installing a pool, which will allow them to increase rents for the summer 2014 season.

“It was an affordable investment for us to make so that we can make our house in the village of East Hampton work for us,” she told the Post. [NYP]Zachary Kussin
