The tenant evictions at Hotel Chelsea show no signs of letting up, even though Joseph Chetrit and David Bistricer no longer have an ownership stake in the historic property at 222 West 23rd Street. King & Grove, led by CEO Ed Scheetz, bought out Chetrit and Bistricer’s interest last month, and has moved forward with evictions against tenants of an eight-unit brownstone known as the Townhouse.

These evictions have gone on despite promises from Sheetz to end intrusive renovations that upset residents and to enhance the way the property would be managed.

Representatives from King & Grove did not respond to DNAinfo’s requests for comment.

Tina Rossner, who is one of the tenants being evicted for allegedly not paying his rent, told DNAinfo that “nothing has changed with the removal of Chetrit and the addition of Scheetz. The walls in my apartment are still crumbling, there’s more mold, that’s it — and no one’s come to fix anything.”

Samuel Himmelstein, an attorney representing several other Hotel Chelsea tenants subject to eviction hearings, declined to comment to the publication, citing continued negotiations in those cases.

The deal for Chetrit and Bistricer’s stake in the hotel signified an end to their longstanding hotel partnership with Scheetz, as The Real Deal reported. [DNAinfo]Hiten Samtani
