Bronx residents, postal workers and their allies have taken to the streets to protest a federal agency’s decision to reject their appeal to block the proposed sale of the historic Bronx General Post Office.

The protestors will march Saturday to the cavernous post office to demand the U.S. Postal Service drop plans to sell the landmarked building.

“It’s an iconic building that was built with taxpayer dollars and now they’re going to sell it to private interests?” Chuck Zlatkin, legal and political director for the New York Metro Area Postal Union, told DNAinfo. “It’s really a destruction of the commons.”

The sale is also being challenged in Federal Appeals Court by a New York University professor who filed suit this month to reverse the August decision by the Postal Regulatory Commission. [DNAinfo]  – Hiten Samtani
