The head of a private equity firm has put his cond-op at Extell Development’s 995 Fifth Avenue, formerly the Stanhope Hotel, on the market for $13.5 million.

Sharon Baum of the Corcoran Group has the listing. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home is one of 26 units in the building opposite the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The sellers are Robert Rosner, president of Vestar Capital Partners, and his wife Cecile, who bought the 4,357-square-foot residence for $12.5 million in 2009, according to StreetEasy.

The couple purchased the home as a sponsor unit and had it customized by architect David McAlphin, according to the New York Times.

The former Stanhope was built in 1926 and converted by Extell in 2008. The apartment features bleached wood floors, modern gallery lighting, marble baths, a walk-in rain shower in the master suite and a 25-by-13-foot chef’s eat-in kitchen with views of the museum. Other buyers at the building include beer heiress Daphne Guinness, who sold her unit at a loss in November 2012.

“This apartment is in immaculate condition and impeccably decorated, in a building with wonderful service, and in a special neighborhood that speaks for itself,” Baum told the Times. “Where else can you sit in your living room in the evening after the museum closes and the lights come on and have a bird’s-eye view of the masterpieces inside?” [NYT] — Angela Hunt
