An 11-story building, complete with a storage and indoor recreation space, is going up in place of a Tribeca building that was ruined by Hurricane Sandy.

Aby Rosen, the owner of 67 Vestry Street, has opted to tear down the existing nine-story loft building and have his real estate firm RFR Realty erect a 134-foot-tall structure with 42 residential units, to be designed by SLCE Architects. The building currently has 25 rental units.

It is not clear if the new building will hold rentals or condominiums. RFR has filed plans for the project, but not the demolition permits it would require, according to BuzzBuzzHome.

Rosen bought the property for $16.5 million in 2005 and tried to sell it again in 2012, before Sandy knocked out tenants’ electricity and heat for weeks, according to reports. [BuzzBuzzHome] — Angela Hunt
