Meticulously renovated co-op at 911 Park asks $9.5M

The owners sought to reinvigorate the apartment's pre-war charm

 A 10-room apartment at 911 Park Avenue has undergone a sophisticated renovation, delicately balancing pre-war finishes with modern décor. The co-op is now on the market asking $9.5 million.

No. 9C in the limestone-and-brick building at East 80th Street was extensively renovated by David Mann of MR Architecture + Décor, leaving no corner of the apartment untouched, according to the New York Times.

Only the ceiling beams, oak floors, and a commercial-grade Traulsen refrigerator survived the makeover.

“We loved this apartment at first sight for its great light, nice size, and a sense of prewar grandeur we were able to put our own stamp on with the renovations,” owner Wendy Chaikin said. “But we grew into it and now we feel, with the four kids, that we need more space. If we only had two or three, we probably wouldn’t have ever moved.”

Michele Kleier of Kleier Residential found the co-op for the Chaikins eight years ago and has the listing today. According to Streeteasy data, Wendy and her husband Lee paid $5.2 million when they purchased the co-op in 2004. [NYT] Christopher Cameron
