Brooklyn’s Industry City has landed two new clothier tenants, furthering the complex’s efforts to compete with fashion firms in Manhattan’s Garment District.

New York-based clothing and furniture company Steven Alan inked a deal for roughly 11,600 square feet of space for a seven-year term, while Boston-based Ball and Buck, a men’s clothing company, picked up a smaller 1,500 square feet for three years in the Sunset Park complex. Both plan to use the space for a showroom and design offices, and Steven Alan will also do photography.

“Here, you’re getting this space that isn’t hundreds of dollars per square foot, in a building where you’re around like-minded individuals working with their hands,” Mark Bollman, president of Ball and Buck, told Crain’s.

The duo will join other fashion tenants such as Maria Castelli and Lana Stepul, as well as 12 small factory-style operations that make clothing in the space.

“We really tried to focus on inviting the fashion business to Industry City,” Michael Phillips, chief operating officer of Jamestown, which bought a 50 percent stake in the 6 million-square-foot complex last year, told Crain’s. “There is also a whole cut-and-sew piece that we are essentially trying to keep in New York.” [Crain’s]Julie Strickland
