Dismal subway entrances at 40th and 46th streets in Sunnyside, Queens will become bright new plazas as early as June.

Last Wednesday, the Department of Transportation held a public meeting to solicit ideas on how to best design the plazas, according to Sunnyside Shines, which co-hosted the event.

Ideas from locals included better lighting, additional maps, movable tables & chairs, a colorful concrete surface, planters and artwork – many neighborhood residents dislike the current artwork at 40th Street, according to Sunnyside Shines.

David Breen, the associate project manager for the Department of Transportation, has promised to incorporated the community’s ideas into the project plans, which will be presented to Community Board 2’s Transportation Committee on May 27. [Sunnyside Shines] Christopher Cameron
