A five-story Lenox Hill townhouse known as the Sherman M. Fairchild Mansion hit the market for $40 million.

Architects George Nelson and William Hamby constructed the building, located at 17 East 65th Street between Madison and Fifth avenues, in 1941. The five-bedroom, six-full-bathroom property is named for the founder of Fairchild Aviation. The property has a very open layout and several ramps. Amenities include a wine cellar and a basement that now doubles as an office and storage space.
