The World Cup has officially kicked off in Brazil. And to celebrate, here is a look at seven of the best luxury homes currently on the market in Rio de Janeiro via Curbed – eight if you count Ronaldinho’s Airbnb listing. Check out the photos below.

The advert reads: “one-of-a-kind ‘house on top of a building’ penthouse,” but don’t let the bad English fool you. This three-story, 40,903-square-foot mansion features views of Guanabara Bay, marble floors, an elevator, vestibule,  sauna, 24-person dining room,  winter garden, and  “smoking room.” The price is “upon request.”

In Jardim Botânico — “one of the most idyllic districts of Rio de Janeiro” —  this glass-box mansion is massive. The master suite alone measures 1,195 square feet. Designed by Ruy Rezende Arquitecture, and weighing in at 40,000 square feet, the estate is surrounded by a nature reserve and boasts a “panoramic” deck. Again, the price is upon request.

This “charming imperial residence” in Rio’s Itanhanga district is nearly embedded into the rocks behind it. It features a gazebo, a pergola, a well, and “a small lake with fishes and fountain.”

This 12,486-square-foot colonial includes a five-bedroom main house, 2,982-square-foot guest house, fruit trees, a tennis court, and a soccer pitch.

This townhouse by architect Claudio Bernardes has a kidney-shaped pool, and midcentury style. Once more, price is upon request.

This Neoclassical, 19th century mansion is 11,840 square feet, and is “perched above one of the most renowned landscapes in Rio de Janeiro,” on a “sun-drenched hilltop” surrounded by “century-old trees, manicured lawns,” and a stone staircase, according to the listing. It’s price is upon request.

This contemporary duplex penthouse in Rio’s Ipanema district is 5,026 square feet and boasts a verandah, steam sauna and pool. Naturally, you’ll have to ask for the price. [Curbed]Christopher Cameron
