Alan Gorelick, a former top executive at Saparn Realty, pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $3 million from residential buildings he managed in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Gorelick admitted the wrongdoing in Manhattan Supreme Court Tuesday, copping to stealing $2.6 million from some 30 buildings. He was arrested January 16 and charged with one count of grand larceny and nine counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.

He was indicted in early February for stealing nearly $611,000 from Harway Terrace, a Mitchell-Lama housing complex at 2475 West 16th Street in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that Gorelick would divert checks from apartment sales, tenants’ rent and maintenance intended for the bank accounts of their respective buildings and deposit them into his own account instead. To cover his tracks, he falsified the bank statements provided to his clients, prosecutors said.

“This defendant stole from all kinds of buildings under his fiscal watch, from a luxury doorman building in Chelsea to a Mitchell-Lama complex in Brooklyn, New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement. “This office will continue to investigate and prosecute those who abuse positions of trust to steal from New Yorkers.”

Gorelick is to be sentenced Sept. 15, and is expected to get anywhere from 3.5 to 10 years in prison, according to the Post. [NYP]Julie Strickland
