Permits filed for HAP’s Rashid-designed Fort George rentals

Unusual design for eight-story building "looks like a losing game of Tetris"

Permits have been filed for a mixed-used building, developed by HAP, at 655 West 187th Street in Fort George.

The eight-story, 57,951-square-foot building, will include an 8,418-square-foot community facility. It will also feature a residential space. That space will be comprised of 47 rental units.

The building façade consists of alternating colored blocks in varying shades of purple that resemble “a losing game of Tetris,” as New York YIMBY observed.

While Karl Fischer is the architect of record, Karim Rashid, who is also involved in projects at 655 West 187th Street and 329 Pleasant Avenue, is responsible for the building’s design. Of the façade, Rashid wrote on HAP’s website: “The façade color-story is inspired by the New York State bush, Lilac […] which has been reinterpreted into a pixilated image.” [New York YIMBY]Sasha von Oldershausen
