Homes in Manhattan routinely sell for tens of millions. In fact, most of the time a $20 million home sale is hardly even noteworthy. But in Chicago, a $19.5 million home sale is record-setting.

Recently, a massive home on Chicago’s North Shore sold for $19.5 million, which according to Crain’s might be the priciest home sale in the Chicago area ever.

The large French Normandy-style Glencoe home was built in 1917, and designed by famed Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, according to Curbed.

In 2002, the property was purchased by Equity Group co-president David Helfand for $6.8 million. Helfand completely remodeled and expanded the home to 15,800 square feet.

But the most recent sale price is more than double that of the most expensive residential sale within Chicago — a three-bedroom co-op on Lake Shore Drive that sold for $7.4 million earlier in the summer.

However, the new record could soon be beat by the humungous Trump penthouse, which is asking $30 million. [Curbed]Christopher Cameron
