Community Board 2 shoots down proposed Bowery newsstand

Locals turned out in force to oppose the stand

Bowery locals are coming out to fight a proposed new newsstand on the corner of Prince Street – yet another sign of the neighborhood’s increasingly gentrified tastes.

Last month, the hopeful applicant appeared before Community Board 2 to seek approval for a unit outside the Bari Restaurant Equipment store, but was categorically denied, according to Bowery Boogie.

The board came to its decision partially because neighbors and the owner of Bouwerie Iconic showed up to oppose the newsstand.

However, the applicant returned earlier this week to apply for a spot in a location just a few blocks south at Kenmare Street. He was denied again. [Bower Boogie] Christopher Cameron
