Top slumlords raked in millions in subsidies

Together the two landlords with the most violations in the city received $3.5M

They rack up violations. They don’t make repairs. But they do collect federal subsidies and city payments.

The city’s two “worst” landlords, who topped the city’s “100 worst landlords” list, took in more than $3.5 million from the fed and the city since 2010, according to the New York Post.

List topper Robin Shimoff received $465,000, as well as 3,352 violations at 13 buildings. No. 2 worst landlord, the Mount Hope Housing Company in The Bronx, has received $3.2 million, even though the nonprofit’s 14 buildings have racked up 3,050 violations.

“We have urged Section 8 [inspectors] to look for years at violations that are placed on these landlords,” Judith Goldiner, an attorney with the Legal Aid Society, told the Post. “We haven’t seen a lot of progress.” [NYP] – Christopher Cameron
