Dispute with landlord shutters popular Bushwick venue

Radio Bushwick is now battling the building owner in court

A real-estate investment firm is trying to boot the popular Bushwick music venue after it refused to complete Buildings Department paperwork for a cabaret license.

Radio Bushwick was forced to shut down on Thursday after receiving a partial vacate order as owner Tari Sunkin battles landlord Cayuga Capital Management in court, according to the New York Post.

Sunkin claims Cayuga head Jamie Wiseman was supposed to finish alteration paperwork to rezone the building from manufacturing to a bar and dining establishment. But the Wyckoff Avenue property still doesn’t have a certificate of occupancy.

“It’s Wall Street’s version of ‘Footloose,’ ” said Sunkin’s attorney, Adam Leitman Bailey. “It’s un-American to stop people from dancing and having fun in exchange for corporate greed.”

Wiseman counters that all renovations and permits are his tenant’s responsibility.

“All I would like for her to do is close out her [permit] application, pay back rent and operate within the law,” Wiseman told the Post. [NYP] Christopher Cameron
