Pad once home to Sting, Billy Joel trades for $17.1M

Billionaire Michael Naify sold his Central Park West apartment — a duplex at the Brentmore once owned by Sting and Billy Joel — for $17.1 million.
Naify paid $17.5 million in cash in 2010 for the co-op at 88 Central Park West, and he has now sold the 6,000-square-foot residence to an unnamed buyer, according to property records filed today. The deal closed October 30.
Kyle Blackmon, who jumped to Urban Compass last week from Brown Harris Stevens, had the listing.
Naify put the apartment, which has 100 feet of frontage overlooking Central Park, on the market last September with an asking price of $21.5 million, according to StreetEasy. The price was cut to $19.8 million and finally $17.9 million.
Once two units, the residence was available as a combined duplex or as two separate apartments: Unit 2S was listed with an asking price of $8.75 million, and Unit 3S was listed at $9.15 million.
The buyer is identified in public records as a trust named 88 CPW-2-3S Trust.
Sting bought the apartment from Billy Joel in the 1980s.
The tony, 12-story building is known for catering to the celebrity set.
In June, photographer Annie Leibovitz bought a three-bedroom co-op at the Brentmore for $11.25 million. Her apartment is next door to Robert De Niro’s in the building.
