The Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center named the architect who will design its new 80,000-square-foot Financial District facility.

The group announced that Brooklyn-based REX, headed by Joshua Prince-Ramus, will take the lead on the project.

The latest development proposal for the building, released in October, calls for 80,000 square feet of space in three or four above-ground floors. Plans include a 600-700 seat auditorium, a 200-seat theater, two smaller theaters, a cafe and a restaurant.

The latest iteration has a projected cost of $200 million, and is slated for completion in 2019, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Frank Gehry produced a set of blueprints for the building back in 2004, but his plan was thrown out in 2014.

Prince-Ramus, a protege of Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is also working on another $200 million project, the renovation of Brookfield Property Partners’ 5 Manhattan West near Hudson Yards. [WSJ]Ariel Stulberg
