Douglas Elliman is betting big on the future of Fort Greene. The company is quadrupling the size of its current digs in the neighborhood from a small satellite office of 500 square feet to a more than 2,000-square-foot office space, said manager Denise Joseph.

The office at 664 Fulton Street, near South Elliott Place, opened in 2009 and was designed to be an “office of the future,” with just a handful of desks and a tiny storefront. In recent years, however, the office has grown from just four agents to a 24, rendering the space insufficient.

Now, Elliman plans to take over the space next door to expand its footprint. The new space is slated to open at the beginning of April and will accommodate up to 50 agents.

“Fort Greene has really been booming,” Joseph said. “You look out our window and you can see nine cranes. Every empty space in the neighborhood is being developed.”

Business is slated to tick up even further once a slew of new rental buildings hit the market in neighboring Downtown Brooklyn throughout 2016 and 2017, Joseph said. More than 6,400 new units of housing are slated to be built across 25 new properties before 2019, according to a recent report from CityRealty.

“We’re at the cusp of dealing with a glut of new rentals,” Joseph said.
